Egg Retrieval Process

Preparation of Egg Donor for Egg Retrieval - What to Expect

In order to complete a successful egg retrieval, the donor must be prescribed a number of medications. These hormonal medications will stimulate and increase the development of eggs within the ovary. Controlled ovarian stimulation is the official name of this process.

By completing ultrasounds and measuring hormones in the blood of the donor, we will be able to monitor egg development. Medication will also be given to the donor in order to prevent the premature release of eggs, or unplanned ovulation.

After using an ultrasound to determine the follicles are at the correct size, an injection will be given to trigger the ovulation process. This will allow the eggs to mature in time for egg retrieval.
