Types of Donors

An anonymous donor is a woman who is unknown to the recipient or recipients. An anonymous donor may be found through egg donation programs or organizations such as the Global Egg Bank. 

In most cases, a directed donor is a known friend or relative of a recipient. 

There may be situations in which the recipient(s) and donor have only limited knowledge of each other. This may occur when direct contact is established without the assistance of a third party. 

A recipient should exercise caution when recruiting donors directly without seeking advice. 

An egg-sharing donor may also be referred to as a split donor or a shared egg donor. This refers to a situation in which a donor decides to donate their eggs to more than one recipient.
